It’s not the same – those who are openly attacking or insulting Islam and Muslims are NOT in the same category as some celebrity like Paris Hilton.

Would you call Paris Hilton a tyrant or an oppressor? Or an enemy of Islam?

Tyrants and oppressors are in a different category. As for how to speak of them, look to Nabi Moosa (a.s)’s example of how he spoke to Firaun.

There’s no doubt that we shouldn’t just pretend and play nice when it comes to people like that – but even within that (i.e. dealing with or talking about oppressors), there is a level of adhab that we should adhere to. I’ll leave you to seek out the answer on what that adhab is – do some searching or ask a scholar.

And keep in mind that even though Rasulullah s.a.w. was insulted and oppressed by the tyrants and powerful of his time – did he turn around and viciously insult them?

It all comes down to boundaries. Throwing out insults at celebrities – regardless of how silly their behaviour may be – crosses a boundary. What’s the benefit in insulting them? How will calling Paris Hilton a “dom ding” make Allah love you more?

While we may have negative opinions of her, and it’s common for people like that to be ridiculed in public, I don’t think it’s right for Muslims to use such nasty descriptions – as it borders on backbiting (if it isn’t already backbiting)…right?

Whether a person is muslim or not, we shouldn’t speak insultingly of them using terms like “dom ding” and “one of the stupidest people on earth”.

I see paris hilton as one of the stupidest people on earth & Im sure everyone sees her like that. & the tabloids will make it seem as if this is a stupid deen for stupid people. however if she does find this deen & gets hidayah then we would all see that in the changes in her image. usualy with hidayah comes hikmah & we wont see her as the “dom ding”she is.

thanks for the clarification. Muslims also must remember , if anyone accepts Islam, she has done a favour to himself/herself , it’s a not favour to Allah.

Islam is the Truth – does not matter if a film actress / model or any famous personality coverted to Islam or not.

Branden, the joke is on the Muslims, the ones who have read the original article and thinking that it is true and serious. As i mentioned, that is a SATIRE website.
Which brings me to the next point, as muslims we need to VERIFY all information we receive, especially when it comes out of western websites.

The editor of that website is having a laugh at the muslims typing out messages of support for Paris Hilton.

When Cat Stevens, aka Yusuf Islam reverted to Islam. He announced it officially and through the correct channels. There was no mockery or joking as it was legitimate. The website in the Paris Hilton case, simple wrote this piece as a joke.
