Suspicions

It is narrated that once an old man seated outside the Jame' Musjid in Delhi was repeatedly saying: "You are not my Allah and I am not your slave." As people passed by and heard his statements, the comments began to fly. Some called him a kaafir while others passed various other insulting remarks.  Eventually one person stopped and asked: "Can you tell me what you mean by this statement." The old man sighed and exclaimed: "At last one intelligent person has come along." He then said: "My … [Read more...]

Inside an African Shariah Court

An interesting documentary on Shariah law in Nigeria, working alongside "western" law. I'm all for Shariah law, however i think there will be huge conflicts with western laws in more 1st world countries. One has to admire the steadfastness of Esah (the judge) though I dont think his mindset will agree with many modern societies. My take: I cant really identify with rural Africa much, perhaps a documentary in a middle eastern country where things are a bit more modern would clear up allot … [Read more...]

Website Review: www.islam-guide.com

Coming from a webdesign & graphic background I think it would be fitting to review and in turn link to various Islamic Websites which I find interesting. The website is basically a transcript of a book by the same title, topics cover all aspects of Islam at an introductory level. Us Muslims might take it for granted, however reading through various … [Read more...]

Poem of the Soul

A Poem of the Soul by Imam abu Hamid al Ghazzali..Much I have strained to make my soul obey, But for whose sin I had not gone astray; When I would be obedient, it was faint And showed a strange distaste and unrestraint. I wrestled with my soul as with a foe, It bidding me to err, I saying no; We were as ancient enemies at large. I put on patience, to withstand its charge; With troops of tempting it came forth to fight - What patience could withstand such reckless might? - Which … [Read more...]

The Best Of Times – Moazzam Begg

Source I first read the Dickens’ classic, Bleak House, in solitary confinement, Camp Echo. The concentric part of this story is based on the fictitious – though accurately representative – and never-ending case of Jarndyce vs Jarndyce which ultimately consumes and destroys the lives of it’s central characters, rather like the Supreme court decisions relating to the Guantánamo detainees. But it was the first sentence of another Dicken’s classic, A Tale of Two … [Read more...]
