Yusuf Esters will appear only in musjids and islamic venues-more often than not this serves as entertainment for muslims with nothing much to do on these days(many are inspired also)
for these appearances to be associated with dawah work and be effective then alternate venues such as city halls etc should be used so that non-muslims would feel comfortable and they would also attend

Please read the itinerary again, Yusuf Estes will not ONLY be at Masjids & Islamic Venues.

Tonite is the Great Hall at Wits Universaty, other halls in Eldorado Park, Soweto, Polokwane & more are listed. These are aimed at non-muslims and in some cases the previously disadvantaged communities.

I do share your sentiments regarding the youth, but you seem to be mistaken in this case.

my apologies if i’v offended, no intention to.

I think more needed to be done to attract the non muslims to the lectures @ wits and the other venues. i attended the Wits lecture and im dissapointed with the turnout of non muslims. Im not putting blame on the organisers because it was really well advertised. However, we had a speaker who has the capability to draw non-muslims to islam and we didnt succeed in attracting non-muslims. New strategies must be sought to achieve this. I do agree with brother ahmad that in general muslims tend to use this as a form of entertainment (except those few who allah guides).

+1 – i agree to some extent. That evening at Wits was about 95% muslim. That said, a young non muslim girl DID embrace Islam and said her shahada backstage :)

I think one of the solutions is to make our masjids accessible. Masjids in the past were not simply places of prayer but rather Islamic centres which the muslim & non muslim residents revolved around. Interfaith dialogues, q&a sessions, etc.

Yusuf Estes had a fantastic interview on Radio 702, dispelled a few myths too. Hoping to get the podcast for our readers here
